The league was founded on August 20, 1920, as the American Professional Football Association (APFA), but then changed to the name we know today. The NFL (National Football League) is the national American soccer league in the United States, with 32 teams divided into two groups, the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The meeting of the American (AFC) and National (NFC) champions, which determines the champion of the NFL season. The winners of these contests face each other in the Super Bowl, which is played at a predetermined neutral site. This is the match that determines the champion of their respective conference.

The two surviving teams from the divisional round playoff games in each conference face off in the respective AFC and NFC conference title games. In this phase, the teams with the best campaigns on each side will face the Wild Card winners. The matches are played by the winners of the divisions against the three best runners-up. This is the first stage of the tournament, which doesn't include the two best teams from each side. The games are played on a knockout system, and whoever loses is eliminated.

Then comes the Wild Card, Divisional Round, Conference Championship Game and the ultimate glory: the Super Bowl title. In 1946, after the war ended, Halas and a number of former players returned to the team, and the Bears won their fourth NFL Championship in seven years. Those who watch the NFL live throughout the regular season look forward to the playoffs, when the top teams in each division occupy eight spots, while six teams advance, depending on their score in the standings. Many great football players were subsequently drafted into World War II, and Halas himself would leave in 1942 for a tour of duty in the Pacific. The Bears followed their history-making win with two more consecutive championships, including a game against the New York Giants at Chicago’s Wrigley Field just two weeks after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. Things only got worse for the Redskins, and by the end of the second half officials were asking Halas not to let his team kick for extra points, as they were running out of footballs after too many had been kicked into the stands. After the Redskins narrowly missed an opportunity to tie the game, the Bears clamped down and began to dominate, leaving the field at halftime with a 28-0 lead. Less than a minute into the game, the Bears’ running back Bill Osmanski ran 68 yards to score the first touchdown. After Chicago lost 3-7, the Redskins owner, George Preston Marshall, told reporters that Halas and his team were “quitters” and “cry babies.” Halas used Marshall’s words to galvanize his players, and the Bears scored 78 points in their next two games to set up a showdown with the Redskins in the league’s championship game on December 8, also in Washington. The Bears, coached by George Halas, brought a 6-2 record to their regular-season meeting with the Redskins in Washington on November 17, 1940. On December 8, 1940, the Chicago Bears trounce the Washington Redskins (now known as the Washington Commanders) in the National Football League (NFL) Championship by a score of 73-0, the largest margin of defeat in NFL history.
